Procedure

Procedure for airlines and shipping lines

In accordance with the Spanish legal framework

Airlines and shipping companies must send to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior the passenger and crew information (API) for flights departing from outside the Schengen area and arriving or in transit to Spanish territory.

At present, one of the possible ways of sending API data is through SITA services, since in Spain there was a contract with this company for this purpose which was not extended due to lack of approval from SITA. The contract expired last May 2018 and has not been renewed.

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior cannot start a new contracting procedure until next year and the same will depend on the existing budget

Information to be received by the Ministry of the Interior

The companies will send the following information of all passengers to be made available to the National Police and the Civil Guard:

  • Number and type of the document with which the passenger identifies himself/herself during transport.
  • Nationality of the passenger.
  • Name and Surname of the person to whom the identification document corresponds.
  • Date of birth appearing on the passenger's identification document.
